Flensted Monkey Tree Mobile

Monkey Tree Mobile: Five swinging monkeys and a palm tree make up this whimsical mobile. Made of colored plastic shapes. Measures 23″ tall by 20″ wide.
Pros Summary:
  • Monkeys seem like they are flying through the air and babies can’t keep their eyes off this mobile
Cons Summary:
  • Mobile is made of paper so can tear if not treated carefully

About Flensted Mobiles

Flensted Mobiles are created so that the elements are in constant motion while the entire mobile maintains a harmonic balance. Each mobile is carefully assembled, and balanced by skilful hands. They are packed so that they are ready to hang.
Mobiles are a traditional craft in Denmark, but the modern mobile – as a decoration for the home – was created in 1954 by Christian Flensted and his wife Grethe. Their first design, the Stork mobile, was a great success, and now flies all over the world.
All Flensted mobiles are hand-made in Denmark, and offer high quality at a moderate price. Elements are assembled and packed by about 50 skilled home-workers and their families. Many of the original Flensted mobiles are still in production, but the contemporary designs are now the bestsellers.

Monkey Tree Mobile By Flensted Mobiles Users Reviews

Although there are not many user reviews for this product, the Flensted Monkey Tree mobile has so far received a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars from reviewers at babyearth.com and amazon.com.
Reviewers say their baby stares at this mobile for hours at a time and the monkeys seem like they are just floating through the air.  Users love this mobile, and say it is cute to look at and has a wonderful simple style.  The monkeys move with the wind and baby loves to chat with his monkey friends.  Users also love that this mobile is so light and that the strings connected to the monkeys are invisible.
One user didn’t care for this mobile saying it is small, flimsy and is paper thin.  However, this user also mentioned that she received it as a gift at her baby shower and how cheap it was for someone to only give her a $40 gift.  So, I think if the gift wasn’t diamond covered and name brand, this user wasn’t going to be pleased.
However, this mobile is made from paper so be careful when hanging it as it is very delicate and can tear.
Note: This mobile does not attach to the crib but rather to a ceiling or wall hook.

My Two Cents

While I used one of the high tech electronic mobiles with a remote control for above my baby’s crib, I did attach a mobile similar to the Monkey Tree mobile above my daughter’s changing table.  I just installed a hook in the ceiling above the table and then hung the mobile from this hook.  The irony was that this very simple mobile turned out to be my daughter’s very favorite toy for her first 6 months.  While she also loved her high tech mobile and I couldn’t have survived her infancy without that product, she was absolutely fascinated with this lightweight floating mobile and could lie on the changing table for as long as we would let her just to watch the animals float and spin around.  After her diaper change, when we would pick her up, she would always reach out for the animals on this simple mobile and was so fascinated with touching and pulling at them and watching them jump and move as she let go.
Although this kind of mobile doesn’t necessarily fit in with our high tech, electronic lives where we insist that everything must be the newest, latest and most advanced model, I highly recommend purchasing such mobile for use above your changing table, crib, or wherever.  It’s worth exposing your baby to as many different types of movements, textures, etc.. as possible and I don’t think you will be sorry with this wonderfully handcrafted mobile.

There are also a few reports from users that the mobile canopy can suddenly detach and fall on baby.  However, it is very lightweight and there are no reports of injury to baby.  Several users also complain that the mobile goes through batteries very quickly.

Advice: One user says the sound on the mobile works better when you use name brand batteries rather than generic batteries.

Sleep Sacks

Edit Posted by Baby Product Rewiew with No comments
Sleep sacks are a relatively new item on the market for baby sleep safety (well, they weren’t around when most of us were kids) and are a favorite among parents because they help to lower the instances of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Sleep Sacks

Also read:

Sleep sacks are like mini sleeping bags for babies and help to prevent the baby from pulling blankets and other loose bedding over his/her face cutting off the oxygen supply.  They are worn directly over the baby’s sleepwear and help to keep the baby warm and cozy all night.   Sleep sacks come in a variety of styles and materials: some sacks are made of cotton (breathable and good for warmer weather or cold weather when paired with a baby blanket) and some are made of fleece or terry cloth (great for cold, winter nights).  Hospitals and baby nurseries all over the some country are switching to sleep sacks for safe baby crib bedding.

Using A Sleep Sack

Sleep sacks are designed with a long zipper down the front.  You just place your baby inside, the same way you would when dressing your baby in a sleep n’ play.  Many brands, like Halo—the inventor of the sleep sack, have reversible zippers so that you can easily perform a diaper change without having to remove your baby from the sleep sack.  Just unzip the sack from the bottom up.
The only annoyance about sleep sacks is that you need to get your baby into the sleep sack before putting him/her to sleep.  If your baby falls asleep in your arms before you have put him/her in the sleep sack, you risk waking the baby to put on the sleep sack.  Plan ahead.  If you know your baby tends to go down for the night every evening around 7:30pm, and then put your baby in the sleep sack by 7:00.  This will ensure your baby falls asleep already safely bundled in the sleep sack.

*Sleep Tip: Stomach Sleep
In 1992 the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended that babies should sleep on their backs to help prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).  Since this time SIDS has decreased by 50% in the United States.  So, rule of thumb: always place your baby on its back for sleep (unless otherwise instructed by your doctor).  However, your baby will sleep more comfortably and more soundly on its stomach.  You can begin allowing your baby to sleep on its stomach once your baby has the ability to roll over on its own.  This way if your baby does not get enough oxygen when sleeping on its stomach it has the ability to roll over to its back.

Gliders and Rocking Chairs

I didn’t understand the importance of having a glider or a rocker for baby feedings when I first brought my daughter home from the hospital. For the first couple months with my new baby I did all of feedings sitting on the couch, in my desk chair, or propped up with pillows on my bed. My back and my arms were killing me by month three. I was also exhausted from have to walk my baby to sleep. She needed motion to help her sleep so I would have to walk with her back and forth across the living room until she finally nodded off. Then, one day my daughter and I happened to be shopping in a baby store when suddenly my daughter became hungry, demanding a bottle. I settled myself into one of the gliders on display and proceeded to give my daughter her bottle. I had never been so comfortable. And my daughter, relaxed and calmed by the gentle rocking motion, quickly drifted off to sleep with her bottle still in her mouth. Needless to say I purchased that exact glider right there on the spot and it was one of the best things I ever bought. No more walking back and forth with my daughter in my arms trying to get her to fall sleep. Now she just falls asleep with the motion of the glider, and my back has never felt better. I highly recommend buying a glider or a good sturdy rocker for your nursery.

Mobiles and Soothers

Another purchase worth making for your baby’s nursery is a good mobile or baby soother that attaches to the crib. My daughter can lay and watch her mobile for up to a half an hour at a time. And trust me, anything that gives you a half an hour free is worth buying. I personally own a battery operated mobile that comes with a remote control for turning it on and off, a feature I love since I can turn the mobile on and off from bed. When looking for a mobile you also want to consider the amount of time the music will play. You don’t want to have to keep winding the music box every five minutes. I recommend finding a mobile that allows for at least fifteen minutes of uninterrupted music. Also consider something with bright colors and interesting hanging toys. My daughter talks and coos at her mobile friends all the time. You should also consider purchasing something to hang over the changing table as well. A good baby distraction while you are trying to change a diaper or soiled clothing will make your task much easier. Find out what other parents have to say about the essentials for a baby’s nursery. Best Changing Tables

Edit Posted by Baby Product Rewiew with No comments
If you are buying or replacing your Changing Tables so you should read this and then start to buy Changing Tables which is best for your baby and suitable for baby room.

Since you can expect to change approximately 2,000 diapers in your baby’s first year alone, you will definitely want to look into purchasing a changing table.  This is one of the essential items you will need to make those many diaper changes as painless (for you) as possible.

Changing Tables And Changing Pads

For parents with spacious nurseries, you can purchase a freestanding changing table, one that does not also function as a dresser.  This kind of changing table has a top surface for diaper changing and usually comes with two lower selves for storage.  Here you can store the diaper cream, diapers, baby wipes, burp clothes, bibs, and extra changes of clothing.  To make the table super comfortable and safe for your baby you should then purchase a contoured changing pad (if one doesn’t come with your changing table).  These pads are usually made of a thick foam lining (so that your baby isn’t lying on the hard surface of the changing table) that is covered with a waterproof vinyl.  Great for easy cleanup during those messy diaper changes.  Some companies even produce changing pads with PVC free vinyl.  You can also purchase special changing pad covers to make the pad extra soft and cozy against your baby’s skin.  Check out our review articles to find out more.

Diaper Changing Safety

Changing pads are designed with high-walled sides to help prevent your baby from rolling too much from one side or the other.  They also come with a safety strap that securely fastens around your baby’s middle.  Most changing pads also come with special safety fastening straps that can be used to secure the changing pad to the changing table or dresser.  These straps help to prevent your baby from falling off the changing table during diaper changes. However, you should never just depend on these changing pad safety features.  Never leave your baby unattended on the changing table and always have one hand on your baby to prevent your baby from rolling and falling off the table.

Changing Dressers

For parents with limited space it is worth looking into purchasing a changing dresser.  These are dressers that also function as changing tables.  They usually come with security bars around the top of the dresser (sometimes removable so you can just use the piece as a dresser when you no longer need it to function as a changing table) to help prevent your baby from rolling off.  Just like with regular changing tables you should buy a changing pad to make the changing surface of the dresser more comfortable for your baby.  If you prefer not to purchase a changing pad you can instead purchase a changing table/dresser cover that is like a special fitted sheet with elastic sides that can go over the surface of the table or dresser providing a nice surface for your baby to lie during diaper changes.

You can also use a regular dresser or table as a makeshift changing table.  Just make sure the item you choose is between 36-43 inches tall.  This will make the changes more comfortable on your back.  You can even buy a special changing table removable tray that provides high walls and added security for your baby on the dresser’s surface.

Baby Cribs: Best to buy Baby Cribs

Edit Posted by Baby Product Rewiew with No comments
One of the most essential baby furniture purchases you will need to make is that of a baby cribs.  There are many things to look for when deciding on a baby crib.  Check out our tips below for what to watch for when crib shopping and also take a look at our descriptions and parent reviews of the various cribs on the market today.

Buying A Baby Crib And Crib Safety

By about 3-4 months most babies will have outgrown their bassinet, cradle or Moses basket and will need a crib for sleeping.  Although style, color and fashion may be important criteria when shopping for a baby crib, you also need to consider safety before making a crib purchase.  However, you can rest assured that all cribs sold in legitimate stores, even the cheapest, must meet at the least the minimum government safety standards.  However, design flaws do occur and you need to watch out for recalls.
When choosing a baby crib ensure that you purchase a firm mattress.  Firm crib mattresses help to decrease the occurrence of Infant Death Syndrome.  Also, make sure that the mattress fits snugly in the crib.  (Most mattresses and cribs are a universal size so that all mattresses will fit all cribs.)  There should be no more than a two finger width of space between the mattress and the crib bars.  This is important so that your baby’s face never gets caught in a wide gap, trapping or suffocating your baby.  Also check that the crib has no broken or missing crib slats and the slats are no more than 2 3/8 inches apart.  This will prevent your baby’s head from ever getting stuck between the slats.  Older cribs such as used cribs or family heirlooms may not meet this newer safety standard and therefore should not be used.  Ensure that there are no decorative cutouts in the crib headboard or foot-board as again, your baby can become trapped in these decorative elements.  Crib corner posts should be no higher than 1/16 an inch.

Drop-side Cribs

Drop-side cribs may soon be banned in the United States.  Since 2007 twenty different cribs affecting more than 40 million cribs on the market from various manufacturers have been recalled.  Almost all of the problems necessitating the recall had to do with faulty drop-sides that created a gap between the rail of the crib and the mattress causing babies became trapped and suffocate.  In 2009 Toys R Us removed all drop-side cribs from its stores and website and now only sells stationary side cribs.  If you are considering buying a used crib, or accepting a used crib from a friend or family member, make sure that the crib in question has not been affected by one of these recalls.

Crib Wish List

Things you may want to look for when shopping for a crib are crib wheels.  Wheels are a much desired feature on cribs because you will need them to easily move the crib when you change the crib sheets and when you need to clean under the crib or reach anything that rolled under the crib.  Moving a crib that is not on wheels is very difficult.  You will also want to purchase a crib with an adjustable mattress height.  Almost all cribs today come with this feature.  When the baby is young you keep the mattress at a high height so that you do not have to bend low to put your baby down.  When your baby is older and can begin moving around you lower the mattress height so that you provide better safety for your baby in the crib.  Now your baby cannot easily climb out.  Inexpensive crib models will come with at least two adjustable mattress heights.  More expensive models can come with as many as five adjustable mattress heights.

Convertible Cribs

You may also want to consider purchasing a convertible crib.  These are cribs that can convert to toddler beds by taking off the crib rail on one side of the crib when you baby is older and no longer needs the safety of a crib.  These cribs will come with a conversion kit which will include a safety bar for the toddler bed.  However, these cribs tend to be more expensive so decide if this is a feature you really need.  If you plan on having another child soon after the first and want to reuse the crib for the new baby, you may not need a convertible crib since you will have to buy a toddler bed, or twin bed, for your first child anyway.
Most stores only keep a few models of cribs in stock.  Check and see which cribs your local store has available because if you need to order your crib it can take up to 12 weeks to arrive.  Make sure you leave yourself enough time.  You can also order a crib from an online store, they usually have everything in stock, but you will have to pay shipping and handling at most sites.
Check out our parent reviews to find out about the best cribs, crib mattresses, cradles, bassinets, and Moses Baskets on the market today.
